Yes they do lucky gets! I've tried for years but have given up. I reckon cos my skin's so white it reflects the light back into space. Only once I managed it and even then it was just a light golden tan but boy did I feel great. Makes the whites of the eyes look clearer, the teeth whiter and overall less like a new born rat. My black pals never look nude if you know what I mean but whites do look pasty and naked somehow!

Blemishes of the skin are harder to see the darker the skin color is. So a suntan covers up what is still there.
But there is a plus to a suntan as vitamin D is created by the skin when you are exposed to sunlight. Combined with calcium, which most people get from the water or milk, their bones become stronger.

It looks better because it's a socially accepted practice. What people believe to look healthy changes with the times people live in. In the middle ages, the more pale a girl was, the better.

Now that's just a modern, and western point of view. In 18th Century Europe and America, very, very pale skin on a woman was highly sought after by men. In countries with people of color, people with white skin were considered unhealthy, no matter how tan they were!

It's just our society. You don't see pale white people in movies or on TV. People see this, and many of them will get a tan if they aren't tanned already from being indoors. When you do see a pale white person, he/she looks different from everybody else, so we automatically subconsciously consider them to be less healthy than tanned people.

I look a lot better because tan skin covers all the blemishes that show through on white skin, such as broken capillaries, acne scars, pimples themselves, etc.
Rosy looks good too, if you think about it, exercise greats that rosy look, which makes it look healthy.

It's a myth. Tanned skin is burned. Only burned slowly. Tanned skin is the result of the skin working overtime to protect itself.
Tan skin is dryer than normal and tanning causes your skin to age faster than if you protect it with sunscreen and shade.
Tan skin is courting skin cancer.
I'd rather be "pale" than tan.
Use sunscreen and lots of moisturizer and your skin will stay young looking longer than if you bake yourself every summer.

It just makes some people look glowing with health, like they lead an active life (& hence healthy) under the sun.

Pale skin is associated with anaemia, or iron deficiency etc. I think pale skin looks healthier, as it looks like it's not going to develop skin cancer or age prematurely.

Doesn't a Sunday Roast look better coming out of the oven than going in?
