mmm... "smoke" and "fire" do come to mind.
But hey! that was probably what the defence wanted.....throw enough sh** and some will stick! People need to stop being led by the nose by the press and I feeel that this case has caused alot of people to analyse this"sheep like" attitudes.

I must admit that even though he won his case I still have doubts. It should be remembered that 11 witnesses against him were party colleagues and included elected members of the Scottish Parliament why would they wish to perjure themselves? I also feel (although there was probably no way round it) that the case should not have been tried in Scotland.
Sheridan is a popular and charismatic figure both in politics and the Scottish press and while I wouldn't jump to defend the News of the World (in fact I wouldn't read it) there must be some suspicion that a Scottish jury would have a natural and nationalistic bias. I do feel that had this case come before an English jury the result may have been very, very different.
If it makes any difference I am Scottish.

I think he will be back in court soon for perjury.... his wife too.
He is an excellent orator obviously... but his innocence seems too improbable.... I think the jury were won over by him, rather than anything substantial in his case. Who knows..... and actually, I'm not sure I give a monkeys really. Made for an amusing distraction... nothing more.

The party (SSP) tried to persuade him not to pursue as he would have to drag people into court who might be inclined to tell the truth and damage his case, and more importantly, the party.
What about the people whose sex lives were made public and whose lives are in ruin?

Tommy got his thirty pieces of silver, pretended it was a moral victory (ha!) and gloated about it.

The party is damaged, peoples lives and careers over (I happen to know one of them) and Tommy is finished as a politician.

So what was the point?
