In fact Euclid was a very common name around this period: the 'complete works of Euclid' were written by a team of mathematicians at Alexandria who took the name Euclid from the historical character Euclid of Megara who had lived about 100 years earlier.

Euclid flourished around 300 BCE. I have a Dover edition of "Euclid: The Thirteen Books of The Elements" in three volumes.

It had nothing to do with literature, but was used for over two thousand years as geometry textbook. Euclid's Elements is the second-most published book in history, after the Bible.
