Niether one is free, but PSP is WAY cheaper ($79 as opposed to $649). I use PSP more than I use PhotoShop, but it really depends on what you'll use it for. Either one is high quality. Both have free trials at their sites so you can decide.

Photoshop. It's better, and always was, too, right from the start when Adobe bought the code for its original authors. There are several direct reasons (that I'm sure others will quote from) but I'll go with the upshot: having Photoshop skills is more marketable, going forward, and if you need help on larger projects, finding Photoshop-skilled people is easier than Paintshop Pro-pros.

While I can't recommend free software downloading places, the Photoshop light versions are pretty much given away free, and the educational licenses are pretty cheap.

Photoshop is the best image manipulation software. Actual cersion Photoshop CS2. If you are not professional photographer or a graphic designer, I think it is bit pricey (US$ 649) for an average user. Better alternative for a home use is Photoshop Elements that has most of a Photoshop features only targeting less demanding users. Elements cost around US $150.

Paintshop Pro is better hands down. Try Morpheus.

In my opinion paintshop pro is your best bet because you can zoom in and fix the small details that you cant get with photoshop. However photoshop is better and easier when it comes to resizeing your pics.

I can't stand PSP. I use Photoshop and Corel Painter. Photoshop is great for standard graphical work, but Painter is far better for actually creating images from a blank canvas. They both use the .psd format, so they're completely compatible as well.
