I have two possession of cannabis charges from over 5 yrs ago. I never got convicted of either charges and they are in the process of getting expunged. However, I recently got arrested for a DUI and I am 100% sure I will be dropped of the charges after I go to court. How does this look to employers and at what point during the interview should I bring this issue up and explain?

Once you apply for a position the recruiter will conduct a background check. The DUI will not have as much of an effect as the cannabis charges will. If there is any possibility that the charges will be on your record that is reviewed by the recruiter then I would recommend being up front with them. Honesty is a bed rock foundation for all of the work that is done in the Big 4. (or in any successful company). The real question that you will need to be prepared to answer is if there is a pattern of behavior here? (cannabis, alcohol, etc.). Background checks are before the interview so I would discuss the situation with the recruiter before an interview is offered. They will appreciate the honesty.

You are going to have to hope you have a REALLY understanding employer. If you have about the same qualifications as some other guy and they don't have a criminal record, why pick you?

if you have a police record or a bad credit rating, most likely you will not get the job!
