What are the "absurdities?"?

According to Voltaire, "As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities."

The atrocities are easy to see. What are the absurdities? Be specific.

It means stupid things, stupid ideas and things that don't make sense that's why they will continue to commit devastation, mistakes or bad things. Apply that to almost any thing that its not logical or practical in history like wars and religions.
