The Roman alphabet or Latin script has a very long history and like language has developed over time so did all its letters. There is still many theories going on about it- it's a very interesting subject.

It's history can be traced back to 4000 years ago, back to letter shapes and phonograms. Recently In 1998, archaeologist John Darnell discovered rock carvings in southern Egypt's "Valley of Horrors" that push back the origin of the alphabet to the 1900's BC or even earlier.

In regard to the second part of your question The letter A make the sound 'a' as in apple,and the letter B makes the sound 'ba' as in baby and balloon, and so forth. Each letter has it's phonic sound.

French and German are based on a similar alphabet as English... the only distinction that French has is using accents. German has a pair of symbols (the only one that i'm able to undergo in strategies is the ß, whish is additionally spelled as "ss") Spanish, Italian, Portugese and a few others all use a similar alphabet with minor variations besides.

roman letters [ alpha-beta-s ] adopted by many langs, with 26 alphs, only 5 vowels doing the work of 18 vowel sounds, 21 cons doing the job of 28, some doubling, and so on.
alpha or a , does it matter? why are u named so? it is just that.
## george bernard shaw 1940 made a trust fund for improving the english spelling of 1850s, adopt, phoneticize, [simpler than the IPS],roman alphs, to simplify the pronunciation. # for past 40 yrs i have written to 100s of important people and societies seconding GBS, but no one is bothered. # lookin at how the vietnamese lang is using roman script since 1884 with all hats cups dashes strokes, to show 6 tones and 12 vowels and so on, i even am crusading for the modified roman script to be used by all all all langs of the world. will you join?
