I am, and have always been a firm believer in marriage and a sacred relationship between two people. But now it seems as if people treat marriage as if dating and mostly end up in divorce. People are quick to cheat and are too selfish now to keep up a relationship. I am slowly starting to lose confidence with time and society.

Marriage is only as solid and sacred as the two people involved. People have grown callous toward commitments and relationships, in part due to our disposal society attitude.

Don't lose hope, though. I've known people who were together, either via marriage, handfasting or sheer commitment for 12, 20 and 25 years. They are the examples that give me hope and keep me going.

I don't know many married couples who seem like they're actually passionately, deeply in love. They've been together for awhile but the guys are ALWAYS checking out other women and makinfg lewd comments (I work with them). I think people just get married for convenience now and for fear of ending up alone. It just seems like after you've been together for a few years, you're supposed to get married. But maybe the only reason the relationship lasted so long was simply because you didn't get into a major fight and you like having someone around. If you're not really passionate about that person, of course you're going to look to others.

Some people do not know the meaning of marriage. They jump in before understanding what it is all about....I am glad to hear there are other people out there who value the meaning of marriage. You should love and know a person before getting married, if this was the way it had to be then I don't think there would be divorces....

People are only human, and finding one person that you are suppose to be with for the rest of your life is hard to do.
The harder thing to do is find someone who believes in the same things you believe in.....even though oppisites attract.
Marriage is sacred and will always be that way, but sometimes people who are only human tend to marry the minute they are with someone they feel they are in love with and forget that relationships and marriage take hard work from both parties...and people are not willing to easly stand by and be walked on when someone they are marriage to have repect for them and go elsewhere to satify their needs when they need to get it from the person they decided to marry.
don't give up on time and society, just remember we are only human and have are mistakes that we make and try to learn from.
good luck

Oh the cynicism!
We live in a ME! ME! ME! and NOW! NOW! NOW! society. Get use to it.
We can only try to do our best by raising our kids right and teaching them morale values, but ........
Only time will tell.
Peace.
