no one actually wants to listen to anyone that doesn't agree with them. everyone has some source or another that backs them up. no one wants to change their minds about anything. does it ever get old?

i'm not bored with the debates- just the fact that everyone sucks at arguing.

No, not everyone backs up their screed with sources -- this is the exception not the rule. What does it matter if someone changes their mind, if they become more informed.

Does this get old, yes, but some people have their jobs to do (not me though).

Yes, it does get old. I have answered a lot of questions on these subjects and I am getting to a point where I feel like "I have already answered that question" and I pass them by.

For me, this forum is a great way to get my own ideas in order and out there, and I am often interested to find folks who agree with my sort of Fringe ideas - but you are right, i am not looking for a contrasting view point. I know them, I've heard them all a million times before and I just don't agree with them.

I guess I here to give my opinion and get responses to specific questions and the boring debate can go on it's own way - as it has and will from the dawn of time through to the end.

Peace!

I don't think it's fun at all. I know that I have my own beliefs and I don't like being pigeon-holed as liberal or conservative. I don't know how we can move beyond these categories because we get put in them whether we agree that we fit there or not. It seems to me that if enough of us start to challenge where and how we get labeled then we might be able to shift the discussion. It's as if we live in a world of debate and need to move to discussion. Until that happens - and you're right - we need to listen to people who don't agree with us and try to imagine ourselves from a different point of view.

I think that another piece of this conundrum is that we have moved to sound bite philosophy. We use abbreviations and acronyms instead of words and sentences.

In spite of our differences there are more ways we are alike. If we focussed on that instead of the differences we might find some common ground.

many people don't have sources. that gets very old.

the other thing that gets old is people who express some opinion and can't be bothered to frame it in an answerable way. i do believe that we make progress over time, because the time i live in is so much better than the times before it in so many ways. so, i do not give up hope. if i keep showing up at the front, the battles i care about might be winnable.

i don't care for the type of political nihilism you describe. i have to believe i can change things for the better.

It becomes circular when both sides are controlled by the illegitimate upper class. Politics is a food fight at a prep school. Until we treat all the diverse people in power like spoiled, babbling children and refuse to follow any of their ideologies, we can't learn anything about how deal with our problems. All the people who get ahead and how they get where they are should be attacked, dispossessed, and replaced if we are ever to be free.

could u put up the link? i'd opt for to workout it. usually, at the same time as a protestant encounters a suitable knowledgeable, catechized Catholic, that's regularly no contest. The Catholic wins. i have were given considered this time and time back. that is why the baptist devolves into off-challenge emotional attacks with the aid of actuality he's been defeated and has to inn to distinct ability to a minimum of attempt and make the Catholic look undesirable. as well the glaring shown actuality that, any suited-minded observer will see with the help of way of this. God bless.

You are so right . We go round and round because everyone thinks that they are right and nobody else opinions matter . It must be wonderful to have the only point of view that is correct all the time every time .. Just talk loud and fast enough to block everyone else thoughts . Be first be right !!!!!!

My answer to such questions are not really for the questioner as they are as you say.
I do it for someone who may be actually wondering what someone like me thinks and why and for those actually on the fence. Then there is the person who may agree with me and not know why.

Yes, we certianly are. Sometimes it can be fun to go slumming in the "religion and spirituality" catergory.

If they're doing nothing else, those debates are generating a hellof alota points.
