I would say teachers that actually teach our children are unsung heroes. I teachers can produce successful students, without overstepping there bounds by subjected them to their own political agenda then I think they are heroes. Plus if you consider there is a large percentage of the population who don't even care enough to parent there own children, that makes teaching really tough.

Police officers, security guards, firefighters, and astronauts.

Answer your question? ;D

Police officers - Let's face it, they do a thankless job. If you are one and reading this by chance, thank you!

Security guards - Sure they are cop wanna-be's, but they are good at what they do. They are invaluable to keeping a particular institution safe.

Firefighters - (See Police officers above.) Is it a little hot in here or is it just me? =D

Astronauts - They have quite possibly one of the most risky jobs on the planet (or above it). Their contributions to science is immeasurable. They strap hundreds of tons of explosives to their backs for the betterment of mankind and space exploration.
