Oh, I really believe that more times than not, the anticipation of something is far more exciting than the actual arrival of said thing. I've said this many times of myself, so this won't be new for you, but I am someone that gets excited very easily, always have. Just anticipating doing something that I've dreamed of doing, is the greatest feeling in the world for me!! Who really cares if it doesn't turn out exactly as I hope it will....the wonderful anticipation of it, is worth it, no matter what! :) I can dream, use my imagination, close my eyes and literally feel such a rush of adrenalin from the anticipation! :)
"An intense anticipation itself transforms possibility into reality; our desires being often but precursors of the things which we are capable of performing." ~Samuel Smiles 1812-1904

Anticipation of something special is certainly a wonderful feeling. I share your experience of Christmas mornings and also used to get very excited before going on vacation to Florida, which my family did every year.
However, I'd have to say that the experience of the vacation itself was better, because the anticipation of it for so long made me consciously experience the vacation when it was happening. I remember just sitting back and looking at the ocean and saying to myself, "Here I am."

Yes it is. Stupid cinemas show trailers to movies that will only be premier 1 year later. When the time really comes, all the excitement and anticipation has worn off. After watching the show, disappointment starts to seep in.

yes it is true. Anticipation is the drive of excitement for anyone of us and it makes us ponder on the various wonderful things that might happened. But alas this is also the driving force which caused great disappointment when the event actually occur falling short of our expectations.

Yes, expectation is actually more fun than the main goal, especially when you know that you're getting something cool just for the hell of it.
Thanks for the 2 points, now I'm in Level 2!!!! =)

Yes. A few years ago, the Yankees and the Mets met in the world series. The whole NYC metro area was in a frenzy in the weeks leading up to the series, everybody yelling "YAY!!! SUBWAY SERIES!!!!"
When the actual World Series went off that year, it was highly anti-climactic. It was like "Subway series ... big deal..." I don't even remember who won...

Here's what Spock from Star Trek said:
Spock: After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true.

20 years, 20 minutes or 20 seconds. You are right; life is long, achievements are rare; paths are long, victory dance is short; Work is too much, salary too less.
