Thank you for help. I am having a lot of trouble and do not have much help from instructor and classmates. So thank you.

slope can be thought of as "rise over run" visually the height up or down over the distance forward or back... think about a hill..

ok mathematically...
slope = m = y/x or
slope = k= (y-y)/(x-x)

notice each of these has the y on top of the fraction which on a graph is "rise" and x on the bottom of the fraction which is "run"

when you have two points use the k 'slope' so...

you have two points
(3,4) and (3,-4)
(x,y) and (x,y)
keep the same order label one point as #1, next as #2

so (3,4 ) is point #1,
(3,-4) is point #2

k=( 4- (-4))/(3-3)
k= 8/0...

This is undefined (think of this fraction as 8 of nothing) that is impossible unless you are god... you can have 0/8 which simply means 0 of 8 which is possible, there are 8 apples you have none... but 8/0 is undefined

another way to look at this problem is to graph the two points... they would be a vertical line ( up and down) and that slope say visually of a hill would be a cliff! not a hill you cannot ski that you will die!!!. so mathematically it is an undefined slope. if the graph is horizontal ( flat line) the slope is zero you can ski that by pushing yourself along... cross country skiing...

there is no slope. which means the slope is not avalible. i would think that the slope is infinite but my math teacher said straight vertical lines means there is no slope.not 0 just n/a

slope formula

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (-4 - 4) / (3 - 3) = -8 / 0 = No Slope (you can't divide by zero) This is a vertical line.

Do you have to use an equation or can you plot it....if you can plot it then plot the two points. Then count how many lines up and then how many lines over...that is your slope.

m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
m = (4 +4 ) / (3-3)
m =0
therefore, the slope m is undefined.

This is a line parallel to the y-axis. Its slope would be infinite.

i got 8/0 which is 0 so it isnt a line..........well it is a line but it goes straight up so it would be x=3
