I wasn't trying a "Why can't everyone get along?" question. The question was "Why does everyone have a party of a "wing"?
My point is that
1. Some people have more allegience to their party than their nation.
2. I have some views that are right-wing and some that are left-wing, and every time I address them, someone tells me that I am "wrong" (Thank you.) or that I don't know what I'm talking about... ( I thought this was my opinion.)
I'm just asking for a little respect. (For everyone: right or left, Republican or Democrat.) I should have known that posting a question like this would lead to a bunch of people telling my that I'm wrong or stupid.

Its impossible to have politics without parties. The only time during our nations history that we did not have parties was during George Washingtons term. By the election of 1800 there were two different ideologies on how to run America and they split into two different groups which were The Federalists and the Democratic Republicans.
Later the Federalists, the conservatives, would be completely eliminated adn replaced fore a short time by the Whig Party and eventually they would be completely removed from the political scene and their leftovers started the Republican Party.
The National Democratic Republicans dominated the early 1800's until Andrew Jackson left the National Democratic Republican Party and started the Democratic party when he made his second run for president and won his first term and they have been known as the Democrats since.

You are wrong. Parties are a good thing. Here is the United States we have two major parties and they do in fact unite folks more than they divide. In old Europe and elsewhere they have dinky minor parties that have to form coalitions in order to get a working majority to govern. That system does not work well and is unstable.
You clearly don't have strong beliefs or you would not be faulting partisanship i.e. "Why can't we all just get along". Politics is a bloodsport sweetie. You should read more. Find out what it is they are fighting about. Issues are important.

it is natuiral for people to alling themselves with a group for self serving itnerests and mere3ly for the simple fact that one of the absic human nededs, as it has emerged, is to be accepted in one form or another. Group politics provides scurity and support. It is arguably not the best, especially a two party system, but it is a work in progress and will undoubtly change over time.

It's that way because the two major political parties have so totally sold out to the fringe elements of their party. They call it the "base" ... but I call it the lunatic fringe.
Neither will give an inch when it comes to full allegiance to its fringe beliefs. Both feel that everyone is "either for us or against us" and leave no room for thought.
It's disgusting ... but it will remain that way until one or the other figures out that 60% of America lies in the middle and that America cares more about service and less about power.
Until America demands change ... we're stuck with the intransigent a$$holes we have in office today.

We want people to see there is other ways of looking at a situation other than black and white right or left heaven forbid if we rethink a question and come up with a different conclusion for an answer.

They like Parties so they don't have to do as much thinking for themselves.
It seems that the truth always gets in the way of a political party. Hence, spin doctors.

They are filled with self-contempt and want to feel they belong to something bigger and more important than themselves. They are wimps who want to be pushed around by a leader. They are stupid and want to be given answers they don't have to understand and can just repeat as the Revealed Words of people they want to believe are superior. They are childish, and want to feel, "My Daddy can beat up your Daddy, so you better not pick on me."

Strength is in numbers and that is one reason
why there are parties and "wings" and also you
feel more secure knowing that there are people with the same interests as you.

You are right,we shouldn't belong to a party, or to anybody, they want us to believe that we have to take sides and agree with what those politicians say, and we don't, should have our own opinions
