My daughter is 9mo old and already has a lot of thick curly hair... I don't want it to get unmanagable or tangled, but I worry she is too young... Any advice is helpful.

There are conditioners that are made for babies.

Usually, even when babies have thick and curly hair its pretty soft. Baby shampoo makes even adult hair so soft that it gets too limp to get too tangled. Two latherings of baby shampoo makes hair even softer. If I were faced with the issue I think I'd go with that, and if, by any chance, tangles form you could try one of the spray on "no tangles" products for children. I'm thinking there's probably nothing horrible about using conditioner on the baby's hair (other than risking it's getting into her eyes), but it is yet one more thing with chemicals that you'd be using on her.

Why use something because you're worried about what might happen? Why not double lather her hair with baby shampoo, brush or comb her hair with a brush or comb that don't damage the hair (split ends increase tangles), and if tangles happen use a no-tangles product for children?

Maybe once she's two or three and her head full of hair becomes really full the above wouldn't be enough, but maybe it would be for now.

Note: My remark about nothing too horrible about using conditioner is based on nothing other than a guess and could easily be quite wrong. Consider one other thing, though, and that's that babies have sensitive skin that can develop problems if certain products are used.

I think conditioner is unnecessary. My daughter (2) has thick hair also and we've done good with Johnson and Johnson shampoo. The less harsh and extra stuff, the better for the health of the hair.

Use a baby shampoo/conditioner. That way the kind that you use will not be to tough or strong for her hair.

try using the loreal kids shampoo (the bottle looks like a little fish) it has something in it that detangles the hair as well as cleans it, and its tear free...it shoud be very useful and safe.

here is a link to an example of what im talking about:

They make tear-free datangling shampoo for kids. I used it on my son because he got my curly hair and it was quite long before his first birthday. I also used the leave in detangling spray for taming it when it was dry.
