I'm looking for work experience in interior design practices in the UK, I don't want to get paid, just need the experience. What's the best thing to say to get something out of a company other than a flat refusal?

Tell them who you are and what you can offer them, explain that you don't want paying and that you are willing to do any job. Tell them how keen you are to work for them because...(for this bit you need to research the company, local newspaper cuttings etc, web search etc) Hope this helps and you get a job!

Write them and introduce yourself. Tell them that you are looking for a volunteer position in order to gain work experience. Follow up the letter and CV with a phone call.

"Hello - I am keen to get experience within a well respected company like yours. Do you have any opportunities to offer for work experience at the moment."
(Don't say you'll do it for free - wait & see what is offered.)
