It was the culmination of an intelligence operation that has been ongoing since last December.
The suspects had been under observation for some time whilst the intelligence agencies gathered information about them, their contacts, financiers etc.
The recent arrests in Pakistan apparently provided key information and it was believed that the actual bombing would happen very soon.
The intelligence services decided they couldn't wait any longer and moved in and arrested all the known suspects.
Quite where the initial intelligence came from that put the authorities onto the suspects in the first place is anybody's guess and will probably not be disclosed for years to come.

The Brittish police have been following this group for nearly a year after being tipped off by an undisclosed informant after 7-7. They decided to arrest them the other day because they got information that they were about to initiate the plan.

They had been investigating them for several months. And they information from the Pakistanis about the terror plot. With such a large group involved the terrorists were discovered. The Brits waited until they had sufficient evidence and knew that the attack was imminent, then the arrested them. Thank God!

a woman called in a tip about a suspicious man living in or near her neigborhood. this tip led police to step up their efforts which allowed them to discover more "evidence" of what was in the plan. this coupled with other known facts became - as they say - history. All in all I think it turned out a pretty good deal for all of us.
NOTE: this tid-bit ought to be played up in a huge way - keeping the source invisible of course - and serve as an example of what one person can do to help save life if that's a goal to be realized.

British authorities received a tip-off from a Muslim informant over a year ago. The suspects hadn't even bought plane tickets yet.

I heard that they received a tip and that the tip came from another Muslim. That is what we need. The good Muslims turning on the bad ones. That, as far as I'm concerned, is the only way we can possibly win this war.

money to prepare these bombs was collected in name of earthquake affected area of POK(pakistan occupied india), british officials kept close watch where did that money go. they found that money was deposited in 3 different banksin account of three different persons, 1 in pakistan, 2 in india. they alerted pakistani officals, pakistani officials caught hose 3 people & whole plan had uncovered. immediately by contact to british,20 people were caught in britain.and thus whole plan of devils reveled.
