How Do You Transistion from disk one to disk two on Chrono Cross?

I have a two disk game on Play station 1 called "Chrono Cross". I already got Miguel's body back after the long period of him having to be Lynx. After that, I went to one of the fate distortions in the Dead Sea and was told to put in the second disk. So I did, and I pressed Load Game, but I was told to go back to disk one. Then I tried New Game, but then I was told to go back to the first disk again. What happened, and what should I do? (Note: I currently have 37 stars, if that means anything. And I tried to beat the Crisosphinx, or whatever it's called, but got frusterated and stopped.)

When your asked to put in the second disk, just eject the first disk and put the second one in. Should start right where you left off.

Dont reset or press the power button when your switching the disks!
