Our ethics and values are a personal choice each of us make. "Am I an honorable or dishonorable person?" that is the question. It really is just a matter of who you want to be and what you can live with. It is easy to take the low road and keep the money, the high road is always more difficult which is why it is more respected. It is what you do when no one is looking that defines who you really are. Personally, I would keep the money because they did not do an adequate job when you entrusted your bag to them. Just returning the bag after a week with no compensation for the loss of your bag and items which is because of their own inadequacy for that week is their fault. They would not offer compensation for this willingly and just expect you to accept it because you had no choice. They were not aware that they even recovered your bag and returned it to you. What does that say about their competency? This is just my opinion. You will do what you choose to anyway, its just that sometimes the coin flips in your favor.

The airline doesn't care. One $50 check won't make a diifference to them. But, don't start making a habbit of claiming "lost" items because they will catch on and I don't think you would like that.

I wouldn't recommend it. They may figure it out or ask for more information. Also someday you may want a job that requires you to take a lie detector test and you probbly won't get the job if you confess taking the money or if you try to lie about it.

I believe in karma. If you should choose to return the check, you will be repaid somehow later. It may not be clear to you when it happens, but what goes around comes around....

Seems to me that you are faced with a moral Dilemma, to keep the money or return it. What sense of morality was instilled in you by your parents? What to do, what to do.
