In my opinion, unless there is a change in the political agendas of all the various nations, there will definitely be a straining relationship between the Arab Nations and America. But I do not believed it would be as the Japanese or the Vietnams which in both case war is the issue. So unless the political government decided to declare war on an Arab nation, I am sure there will measures taken to restrain themselves from such actions. But using the Term "friends" would be bleak.
As for David W satement about the McDonald issue where countries with those restaurants never have any issues with the Americans, I have to disagree as there are many Mcdonald Restaurant opened in Asia but I still see resentment towards the political governing party of the United States. Please note that it is usually the Governing Party of a Nation that represents the country and not necessarily its people. So people can hate the political party and still love the people living in that country that do not involve themselves with political issues.

I think the "Arabs" have very long memories. I think that they will not be our friends in reality. However they may seem to be our friends until the day that we forget why they were our enemies. At that point we will be in worse trouble than we are in now. They are still furious over the crusades a millennium ago and some are still furious about how the founder of their sect was killed thousands of years ago by the founder of another sect. When I say furious I mean to the point of gladly killing someone who is on the "wrong side" of that argument. I don't think true friendship will be possible ever but being trade partners with them to get their oil will always a very popular thing to do.

Not going to happen. The people in charge of these countries, even the ones we are not at war with still hate the US. Maybe not the people but the leaders as the culture is driven by the fact that you have to hate someone to have political support. You have to have this to justify your existence. Not hatred against poverty or such..... hatred against an outside oppressor. Because doing so would require taking responsibility for conditions within the country and admitting the failure to address them.

No. It has to do with the culture and how it views the culture of America. The Vietnamese and Japanese did not have a hate mentality toward America until we engaged in war with them. Their violence was war based. The hate dissipated with the end of wartime.

The Arabs have always hated us no matter what. I don't see that changing. I also think that Americans in general (not all Americans mind you) have a very negative feeling toward Arabs relating to their treatment of women and minorities, plus control of what Americans love best--Oil.

Arabs are natural enemy of rest of the world unlike japanies or communist.

History: Mohammad has written Koran to unite Arab tribes against synthic, hindu, jews, mongol, huns and other european tribes. Nordic people did it in medieval times in more civilized way by christianity and imperialism; or other tribes done in different times of history.

Basic problem: KORAN and muslim religion, which didn't change in modern day more peaceful world. If they will not change islam and mix well with others, there is no hope.

In 50 years Arab's oil will dry out and they will go back to herding camels in the desert. So they won't be our friends as Japaneses but rather people we don't care about like Somalians.
