My 4year old daughter has decided she wants to be a bat for Halloween. Tried the batman batgirl thing but she's not buying it. SHe wants to be a regular bat.
Any ideas for how to construct a costume? I'm not that handy with a sewing machine and I don't want to spend a small fortune on a costume.

When I was I kid, I wanted to be a bat for halloween, too. I wore a little black headband with ears from a mouse costume (these are easy to find in a costume shop), I wore a black long sleeved shirt and black stretch pants (you can find these at thrift stores), and for wings my dad cut out a wing shape from some black fabric (you can get plain black fabric pretty cheap at WalMart or fabric stores...even remenants might be big enough for a 4 year old). If you dont' want to sew the wings, you can safety pin them onto the back of the long sleeved shirt and the sleeves. Nice to hear that there are kids out there who think bats are cool!

Buy 1 square yard cheap black fabric - look for remnants.

Cut on the diagonal into two triangles.

You can hand sew (or use the handy-dandy no sew tape from the fabric or craft store) your new black fabric wings onto the sleeves of a big (XXL) cheap black t-shirt. Let her use your makeup for her face, be sure to line her eyes and lips with a ruby red and give her a temporary really black hair rinse.

Tai-chi or ballet shoes and black or red slacks will be perfect.
