I know pretty much the basics about my fish tank. I have a 29 gal. with tropical fish and some shrimp. Then I have a 10 gal. with 3 Pacus in it. I know enough to make them happy and take care of them, but I would like to know more. Is there a good website that could tell me more than the basics of taking care of a tropical fish tank? I dont need to know how to clean or how to feed, but rather, how to make my fish bigger and how to make my filtration systems last longer.

"thekrib.com" is one of the best for all types of fish.

You have 3 pacus in a 10 gallon tank??? Do you know how big pacus get? A pacu is a huge 16-18" fish when grown.

The basics on keeping fish healthy and getting them to grow is as simple as doing 25-30% water changes EVERY WEEK. That will keep the ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels down to where the fish will not be stressed and their immune systems will function normally. Filters should be cleaned and new carbon added about once a month also. You also must vaccuum the gravel once a month to remove uneaten food and fish doo.

There is an old wives tale that fish will only grow to the size of the tank they are kept in. This is not true. If you take care of them properly (water changes, good food, good filtration) they will grow until they reach the proper adult size for the species they are. The reason that people believed that old wives tale is that people never used to do water changes and the toxins built up to the point where the fish were stunted and did not grow or reproduce.

Good luck!

Your pacu's will need a much bigger tank than a 10-gal (you'll need at least 300-gal tank; preferably even a larger tank). If you can't provide a large set up for them, you should return them, they get big (18-24"+) and grow super fast (as in several inches per month). If they're an inch or two now, they'll be pushing a foot by Xmas.

Well, you can always check Google or Yahoo! of course. I would reccomend Google. Then you can just search for fish tank tips or something like that. It would probably be the easiest option.
