I don't know what kind of books you like to read, so I can't predict a book that won't let you down. But I can tell you about a great book called Twilight. It's a YA book. But it can be enjoyed by anybody in my opinion--young or old. Bella Swan is what you might call your average teen. She's moving to a new town, starting a new school, adjusting to living with her father instead of her mother after her mom remarried, and is dealing with your typical 'teen' issues of trying to find her identity and her 'group' to belong to. But her life changes dramatically as she gets to know this mysterious classmate--her biology lab partner--Edward Cullen. He is unlike anyone she's ever met. True, his family appears a little strange to outsiders, but she's drawn to him more with each passing day. But he has a secret that could change her life forever! This book is long (over 500 pages) but it was a book I simply couldn't put down.

Dave Pelzer came to my middle school in Christian County in 8th Grade and did a motivational Speech. Isn't his story so heartrending?
But it is a short read to be honest. If you want autobiographical, then read a Maya Angelou, she also has a background that will make you cry. also Diary of Ann Frank is good, so are the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series, you can get Survivors or anything: But the stories are all true stories, and the Poetry is all motivating and they will make you laugh, cry and make you want to do better like Mr. Pelzer's in A CHILD CALLED IT
But if you like Fiction, you could Read Tony Morrison "The Bluest Eye" or James Baldwin "If Beale Street Could Talk" or Richard Peck's "Are You Alone in The House?" anything by Lurlene McDaniel is inspiring. Danielle Steel has some inspiring novels and she wrote a true story about coping with her son's Death also that I have not read yet but I heard is fantastic. There is also Sybil by Flora Rita Schreider a novel about a woman with I believe with a disorder where she had over a dozen different personalities, Holocaust, the novel,

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. An amazing book. But it is a little slow in the beginning.
Also, the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfield. Awesome sci-fi thriller!
And Don't Die Dragonfly by Linda Joy Singleton, A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass, and Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.

Well it all depends on what you like to read. But here are some old faves of mine. Clan of the Cave Bear, East of Eden, the series by Janet Evanovich, books by Sandra Brown, The Great Mysterious, Shakespear's Landlady (and series), The First Women's Detective Agency (and series). Go to your library and ask them, they have websites to help you pick a good book. Have fun, happy reading.

King Fortis the Brave would be a great book for you. It's about a pair of twins that are brought into a magical realm where they are caught in the middle of a battle for control of the land. It's really well written and full of just the right mixture of humor and action.

If you're into fantasy (like I am), I recommend "Eragon" and "Eldest" by Christopher Paolini, or The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. I also very much enjoyed "Inkheart" and "Inkspell" by Cornelia Funke - The Divide Trilogy by Elizabeth Kay is also very good. And of course, Harry Potter by JK Rowling, but I'm guessing you've heard of that series already, most people have ;).
I also suggest talking to your local librarian or, if you're in school, your English teacher - they'll probably be able to point you in the right direction! :) Good luck!
