i heard that it costs about 10,000$ to adopt a child and then youve got to wait a long time before even being able to take care of that child....my question is..why is that so , dont they want the child to grow up happy ? dont they want more people to adopt ? if it costs that much and it takes that long , some loving husband and wife wont be able to take that child home because they cant afford that much at the time without saving up months and months of paychecks..not like they are poor or anything but bills and food are priority and there isnt exactly 10,000 left over..
why do they want that much money anyways ? and why do they wait so long ? cant they just screen the possible parents to see if they are good people etc in 1 month or less ?

Fortunately, back in the 60's when I was adopted there wasn't the wait and tons of money.
Friends of mine just went to China and adopted the most precious little girl. The cost was around $10,000.00.
The wait is because so many people are wanting to adopt babies that there is a waiting line. Then there's a long screening process to make sure you won't abuse the child. Then the agencies can charge a ton of money because there is more demand than there are babies, and people are "desparate" enough to pay big bucks to have a baby.
It's big business and big money.

It doesn't always cost $10,000, and you never pay up that much money all at once.

Some adoptions are even free (i.e., foster-to-adopt programs in most states -- ask your county/state child welfare system for info if you're interested).

Also, be aware that once you complete an adoption, you are eligible for the $10,000 tax credit on allowable expenses. That is, you get to take off up to $2000 for up to 5 years from your taxes. You basically get your expenses paid right back!

Just first decide if you want to have a child through adoption, then let the expenses work itself out. It always does.

It costs sos much because of all the leagal fees involved. Second the waiting is because there are more people who would either rather have an abortion or keep their babies in poverty and the number of infants available for adoption in this country is very limited. It is easier to go overseas and adopt from China where there is an abundance of little girls waiting for a home.

If there were not screenings and waiting periods in place, child molesters/predators could adopt and harm those children. I don't think it should cost that much, but how do they say "supply and demand".. if you want a child that bad, you will have to pay.

They want to make sure you are a family that can care for the child. The system isn't perfect.
