Short-sighted refers to a persons view on life in general or a particular issue. Someone who can't see "the big picure" in life or an issue. It has nothing to do with eyesight.

A good synonym might be "narrow-minded."

Short-sighted is a term describing an individual or situation that doesn't anticipate potentially debilitating events that could occur farther off in the future compared to the current present.

Short-sighted doesn't refer to the physical act of seeing. It refers to a lack of foresight, or an inability to see that ones actions might have a different effect than you had intended in the long-run.

For example, it was short-sighted for the grasshopper to party all summer... the ants showed good foresight in collecting food for the long winter. The grasshopper later starved to death because of his short-sightedness.
