No, having two real-time virus scanners installed at the same time isn't going to work. No need to go and buy Norton, though.

Just replace AVG with AOL's new free Active Virus Shield. It's based on Kapersky's Personal Antivirus. The Kapersky scanner is one of the best out there, and their pattern updates are frequent.

Dear fellow member,

typically as a rule of thumb you don't run any two anti-virus programs simultaneously or conflicts will occur sooner or later if not right away. AVG I hear works pretty good but I know for sure Symantec Norton Anti-virus works the best.

Kind regards,
Ben

I'd ditch both and go for Avast! antivirus, it also picks up some trojans.
Avg is an anti virus not an anti spyware, so of course it missed spyware.

Use a firewall, Avast anti virus, Ewido anti trojan, Ad-aware SE Personal and Spybot Search and Destroy for adware.

The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Either of these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. They are both fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.

Winpatrol is a handy utility that tracks cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.

Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Microsoft have two free online scanners that look for malware.

You can also download Microsofts free Windows Defender from the official Microsoft site, and the Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Remember to update and run all of you anti malware programs at least once a week.

You should never run two virus programs - sooner or later it will lock up your computer then you will have trouble.
windows defender ( beta 2 ) is as good as microsoft firewall both a waste of space - get rid of windows defender ( beta 2 ) there are a lot better free programs out there.
