The First Persian Gulf War began in 1991 when Saddam Hussein and his troops invaded Kuwait.
I hope these words are easy enough for you to understand. Explaining the causes of war are complicated. There are a lot of reasons why wars begin. This is the main cause. If you want more information, encyclopedias are a good source. If you have difficulty with the "adult" encyclopedias (Like Britannica), try a children's encyclopedia like "World Book."

...Persian Gulf War became a UN sanctioned by the Security Council. Irag (Sadam Hussein) made an attempt to annex an indepently soveriegn nation, Kuwait. The principal allies of UN forces were: the US, and British. We attacked with overwhelming number of forces and destroyed the Iraqi military that was deployed to the region; and restored the Kuwaiti people their sovereignty. The operation of 1990"Desert Shield" became in Jan 1991 "Desert Storm" President George Bush at the time had the full backing of Congress.

The americans need lots of oil and the middle east has all the oil.
America like a big bully decides to threaten all the countries into supplying its oil to american by making up terrorism and making middle east leaders to appear worse than those in the west.

Kuwait drilled under the border to Iraq and stole oil from their oil fields.
Saddam, needing money to fuel his military quest to dominate the region demanded compensation. When Kuwait wouldn't pay he invaded !
To stop him going further - into Saudi etc and dominating world oil supplies, the coalition was formed and the rest is history.
