I blush a lot, find eye contact hard, I fidget and play with my hair etc. I have naked in public dreams sometimes. Aside from this, I have lots of friends can be very confident, don't mind speaking my mind and making a fool out of myself. (and I do so regularly) My best friend thinks its funny when I say that i'm shy. She's like if your so shy why were we all chucking ice down you top at the pub? For example. She says that people are not aware that I sometimes feel shy. However I feel that my nervousness holds me back. I sometimes feel like I can't keep a thought in my head long enough to say it out loud as I feel so shy. So my question is why is it that others aren't always aware of the fact that I feel and look stressed due to shyness, but also why do I feel like this? And why can I feel like this walking into boots but happily dance around to the tweenies at the nursery where I work?

Ha! Very funny David. I didn't mean it like that. I don't jump out of my seat every time there is a noise!

OK the truth is that you are insecure, the reason why you are OK among friends is that you are not chronically insecure, i.e. when people know you and accept you for what you are you don't have a problem, same reason you don't have a problem dancing in the nursery - kids don't judge. You are afraid of judgment, of not being liked so when people don't know you you feel uncomfortable and are shy. Don't worry about it it's got nothing to do with having a nervous disposition and you are evidently well liked where you are known, perhaps you could consider seeing a psychologist to help you to accept that you are basically a nice person and to accept the fact that not everyone has to like you, after all who gives a **** if they don't!!!

Shyness is regulated by many hormones among which oxytocin plays a large role. Some level of shyness is quite natural in many people. Most of us just need to learn to live with it. You could also flip the question and ask what's wrong with people who are not shy or fearful at all?

it could just be in your nature... am very shy too, and i compensate in the same ways you do. some psychologists believe there is a type of person, 1 in 5 of us, who are highly sensitive people, and they believe they are born this way.

most people, 60% of people, are somewhere between being highly sensitive and being not very self conscious at arl...maybe you are one of these 60%, and that is why u can be shy at times and boisterous at others? theres nothing wrong with you chuk, you're just you. enjoy your individuality.

you might be more aware of the things around you then most other people are and this might be making you nervous. Talk to your Doctor and try to get on nerve medicine. Good Luck to you sweety!
