I am not sure about the weather in Phoenix in the winter but I live in Colorado and I Have to keep a depth of at least 3 feet in my pond for the koi to survive the winter. I have a good filtration system and change the filter or clean it as needed...about once a week. I feed a good flake food but you can feed floating food if you want. I have several water plants for shade and beauty..and it helps keep you water clean. I feed one to two times a day, only as much as the fish will eat in a few minutes. The general rule for koi since they get so big over time...up to 3 feet or more is 200 gallons of water per fish. Good luck!

gapf you will need to get some decent food there are foods that will enhance color get one with a good amount of protien.you need a good filter it depends on how many gallons of water are in your pond.cyceling the water 4 times per. hr. would be great.a water change ,just a percentage, say 5 or 10 gal. per. wk. depending on pond size.also i have never worried about stabelizer for water.get a vacume for water changes.good luck and enjoy.
