G'day Beano4areason,
Thanks for the question.
My favourite film of his is American Beauty. The role of Lester Burnham is his best performance and he deserved his Academy Award. He won widespread critical acclaim for his performance.
Mike Clark of USA Today wrote: "American Beauty is a singular accomplishment so specifically keyed to Spacey's talents that it mandates going out on a limb to say it contains the performance that will ultimately be regarded as 'the one'."
Eleanor Ringel Gillespie of the Atlanta Journal Constitution wrote:
"At this point in the year, I'd readily call American Beauty one of the best movies of 1999. It is certainly the best-acted, with Kevin Spacey a standout among a stellar ensemble cast."
Tom Hanks was also considered for the role but Spacey made it his own.
Roger Ebert wrote "Spacey, an actor who embodies intelligence in his eyes and voice, is the right choice for Lester Burnham. "
I have attached some sources for further reference.

This is a tough one, Kevin Spacey if one of my favorite actors. I have seen most of his movies. He plays a good guy and a bad guy with equal greatness. To pick one single role it very tough. I have to say no to Seven only for the fact that he is in it that you really see for a very small part of the movie, granted it was a great few moments. And, yes the Usual Suspects was he big break out role, and was a great mix of both his good guy and bad guys sides, but i like to look at his more unnoticed roles, for nothing Else to turn someone new on to something that maybe they haven't seen. So i would have to Pick Glengarry GlenRoss. If you have never seen it, you should check it out. It's based on a play by David Mamet, and it is very dialog driven, plus it has a fantastic cast (Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, Johnathan Pryce).

Although I am not a big Spacey fan, his work in "The Usual Suspects" was stunning. So unsettling

The Usual Suspects, because of the way he transformed himself at the end. Another great one is The Shipping News. I think that's the title. A great but subdued acting job.

The life of David Gale. I really like that movie and I just think he was perfect for the character he played. He made it real.

K-Pax, because not only is he absolutely fantastic in this film, he nails the character brilliantly and it's just a supberb and thought- provoking film that keeps you guessing, even after the film has finished.

Swimming With Sharks.
The story is fantastic and he just makes the movie!
He takes all that torture and still is so completely underhanded.
If you have not seen this one, rent it straight away!
