According to all the lyrics sites I came across it is Bob Seger.... BUT that is because he was the singer when it hit Billboard (top was #28 in 1979 according to jimbowieband below)... but that does not mean he is the only one to cover the song. For example, according to Lyrics Freak (see below) it was also covered by a band called "Status Quo".

So when you heard the song it was PROBABLY Bob Seger (or Bob Seger & The Silver Bullett Band)... but it could have been another band or singer covering the same music.
