Also the aniversery of the largest terrorist event on US soil.

On September 11th of 2001, four commercial airliners were hijacked in the United States.
Two were flown by terrorists in to the two World Trade Center towers in New York. One appears to have hit the Pentagon. One (Flight 93) was brought down by its own passengers over rural Pennsylvania before it could hit any other target.
It was the defining moment in the life of this generation of Americans and used a justification for massive domestic law and foreign policy changes.

when terrorists took over planes and crashed them into the pentagon, and the world trade centers. they were also planning on crashing one into the white house.
