I had that earlier this year. I'd taken the morning after pill then went on the normal pill, so I presume it was due to the change in my hormone level.

I asked the doc but all he could suggest was that I do a pregnancy test, which i had already thought of andit was negative. He then asked if the bleeding was particularly heavy or painful, which could be a sign of miscarriage which would need hospital treatment.

That proved a dead end as well but when I started my second pack of the pill, it cleared so I can only conclude that it was my body's way of adjusting to the new influx of hormones.

Its different for all woman. Some last 4 days, while some last 7. If you go beyond 7 days call the doctor and make an appointment. Also how heavy is it? If it has been heavy for 4 days you should call. Don't worry, I'm sure you are fine. It's scary at first, but you'll get use to it.

If it is over 7 days, you should go to a doctor. You don't day how old you are - you sound like this is your first period, so you must be young. Tell your parent. Over 7 days is not normal, even a regular period usually doesn't last 7 days.

a UK website www.whatnow.co.uk - go into enquiry. This is a confidential service provided by Lancashire County Council. They're usually available in one form or another from 10am - 10pm - not sure if its 7 days a week - but a good possibility.

This site will also have links to other useful sites.

Definitely see a doctor if it is longer than 10 days, I would say longer than seven days you should call your doctor. This could be a sign of a much more serious problem that can occur at any age!

Periods are always irregular when they first hit you, if you are that worried find someone whom you can trust, whether it be your mum or an older friend/teacher and talk to them/ or maybe visit your doctors who will reassure you and check you out,
