You also may have heat issues. Open up the case (with the power cord disconnected) and give it a thorough vacuuming and go over everything with a soft-bristle brush. Dust accumulates and then the fans don't work like they should.

your power supply may be coming to an end. if you've been leaving your computer on all day for years, your power supply may be depleted.

or your computer could be getting too hot. installing a new fan could do the trick, but also, dont leave your computer near un-cooled areas.

OR it could be a power virus. power viruses use all the power they can, and this would cause your computer to turn off.
