I was told that the difference is just the elective subjects, meaning the Psychology parts/subjects of the two degrees are the same. Is it so for all/most universities?

Typically and in general, BA has languages, BS has more of the "sciences".

a BS in Psychology is more geared toward the science of psych, like chemicals in the brain that make us act a certain way, and prepares you to be more of a psychiatrist (a medical doctor).

a BA in Pyschology is more geared toward counseling, and there's not much science at all, and I would say this is more theory and research of the mind. with a BA, you can be clinical psychologist (can counsel people, but you can't prescribe drugs).
