Some time ago Heloise or Helpful Helen or whoever printed a piece on getting whites, white. There was some type of mixture you soaked them in, maybe overnight. It may have been milk (?) mixed with something or maybe vinegar w/something or dishwasher detergent or SOMETHING. I can't remember. Anyone????

sure fire soak for whites- don't use it on colors if you want them to remain so - 5 gal of water to 1/2 c bleach and 1/2 c liquid dish washing detergent let them soak overnight then wash as usual. this will even take out set in formula stains from baby clothes and moms know nothing gets that out!

The best things for whites is soaking them in Oxyclean, then them in the machine without any soap, to rinse all the oxyclean out Then hang them in the sun...Sun is good for bleaching out whites. After you hang them in the sun I would wash them again to get any dust out that might have gotten in them while outside...

Don't use bleach...bleach will yellow sometimes or make holes in the fabric...

Good luck

I know my mom use to wash her cutains in the dishwasher.

Now a days most people use a new product called oxy-clean that you can get just about anywhere. and can be used in the dishwasher.

believe it or not, the dishwasher cleans them better than soaking them.

I would just use a weak bleach solution. Works for me (on cotton). Not too much or too long, it will weaken the fabric.
