Hi. I'm from Romania. Crime rate is average... food, beer and buget-travel-stile-motels are very cheap, hotels on the overhand are more expensive. Taxi drivers will ripe you off, so ask in every city the local witch taxi companies you can trust.

Romania it's great!. The crime rate is low, laws-just like everywhere in Europe and the cost of living isn't that high. Try the Bran Region near Brasov (with Dracula's castle and so on) - the landscape is fabulous, the food is great and the people are very nice!

Crime in Romania is high, it is very poverty stricken, lots of drugs and alcohol. The cost of living is cheap, but the actual place is not very pretty and the laws are strict especially on crime. I would not like to live there, por conditions.

this site's good for a quick overview - don't *depend* on it though:

try Lonely Planet - the discussion boards are especially useful:

What on earth are you going there for.
Are you tired of living?
That place is poorer than the poorest African countries.
