ive got windows media player on my pc, every time I try to play a disc in the drive, or music that is on the hard drive, it plays for about a minute then says 'windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to close'

Any ideas? Can I delete mediaplayer and then re-download it from somewhere?

Will i lose all my stored music? or is that in another part of the computer, I think the programme is just that, a running programme which doesnt store the music, can anyone help? I dont want to delete it if i cant re-download it or if im gonna lose my music.

Im a total computer virgin, so laymans terms please!!

Thanks.

Im in the UK if that makes any difference.

Just download the latest version. Your music is stored elsewhere (My Music folder- within My Documents), it will not be deleted. Just go to file and add them if the don't add automatically. This here is the newest version:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx
itunes is a wonderful player as someone already said, here is the link to download it. It is pretty user friendly. I personally prefer it:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You dont have to sign up for anything if you dont want to.
Good Luck! ♠

www.microsoft.com to download Windows Media Player 10/11Beta

Your music is stored seperately from Windows Media Player. Do NOT delete the program, simple re-install from the download site. When you want to re-add all of your music, go to FILE>Add to library. You may consider downloading iTunes ... great media player! www.itunes.com

It happens. What I recommend is -

1) Download a later version of Windows Media Player - follow this link - http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/2/A/12A31F29-2FA9-4F50-B95D-E45EF7013F87/MP10Setup.exe - that is the latest version (excluding the beta test, don't bother).

Then try again.

2)If that fails, try using RealPlayer ( http://www.real.com ), then make sure that it is associated with all formats.

See What happens - contact me is nothing!

Oh, you wont lose your music. 99.7% of all music you have on your PC is in the My Music folder in My Documents. Hard to lose it!

windows media player does its own thing, migrates on its own and shuts down when it wants. Just download latest version and make sure you tinker with your options to stop it freaking out again.
