They never went to any drama school. Some of them don't even have GCSES or other equivalent qualifications

you're right. they shouldn't be allowed to stand on a pedistol, and to be a Celebrated Personality, you have to earn it. It's the problem with young people now. I'm only 26 but i see such a difference especially with girls. They are force fed "image" from the media and are told to believe what they tell them. If Big Brother (CONTESTANTS) are said to be celebrities, then they will treat them as celebrities - until the media finds someone else to focus on.

the media acts as a huge lens, a view point for people. Girls these days walk around thinking they are J LO, Christina, Britney, and they haven't done a thing to earn the attitudes they project. The same goes to the CONTESTANTS on Big Brother. Their haven't earned the right, they are simply PLAYING ON A GAMESHOW, that has no realms of reality. It's a fantasy! and once its over, the balance is, they will fall right down to the bottom again.

so much for being celebrities. i would rather have a resume to be proud of rather then an false image of popularity to depend on.

Since when is being a celebrity an accolade? Certainly they are not the first "freaks" to become famous. Big Brother contestants can be called celebrities because they have been screened for hours daily on national television. I say if a poorly educated and overly aggressive rugby league player can be called a celebrity, why not a big brother contestant? Both may be freaks though they are still famous and idolised.

Since when has going to drama school and having GCSEs made someone a better celebrity than others?

A celebrity is merely defined by the amount of attention they get - therefore you are actually increasing their celebrity status yourself!

i'm one of the shyist people on earth also one of the nicest you will never meet. to want to be put in a house with people you dont even know, sleep in the same room and "pretend to be friends" is bizzare to me. all the people who have been on it must have some kind of mental problem, yes there is prize money maybe i'm too cynical of other people but i know for sure its impossible to love people or call them a good mate when you only knew them for a few days or months. they are not celebrties or contestants they are dancing monkeys with no career personality or talent, just wanabee somebodys for 1 minute. i hate them all and none more than grace and jayne.

first

super b ^ up there... is a rude little shite, I'm English , and DONT worship the Queen Or bloody football, whats HIS problem?!!

i like watching Big brother, BUT ...i agree, they are NOT celebrities, neither are a lot of people dragged out of nowhere, in pop bands, in five minute wonder shows, pop idol ...X factor..they well be eventually but they have to EARN it..BB contestants dont EARN anything, they get it handed to htem on a plate, i know people i interract with on a daily basis who would do better in the media eye.

Celebrity; noun

1. A famous person.
2. Renown; fame.

I don't know why people connotate celebrity with talent.

I've known since the age of five that if you're FAMOUS or recognised by the media than you are a celebrity. That's just the definition of the word

How can any reality show contestant be called a celebrity? Why single out Big Brother?

i know i really hate BB it just annoys me they get these retarded people to live in a house for weeks and weeks on end and then at the end they become celebrities for doing nothing , i have 13 people living in my house but you dont see us becoming celebrities , and the reason most people watch it is because they want to see how people act with others, i always say why watch people you will never know and go out and make some real friends.

People always say look at "dave " for instance they see him on tv and say hes really cool and down to earth but they dont really know him he just wants the money and the fame at the end of the show.

The word 'celebrity' has become a joke, anyone of us could become a 'celebrity' if we wanted to - you don't need talent, style or beauty, just no shame and an inflated ego

A celebrity is someone that the media is willing to cover...interview, photograph, put on tv. BB7 are reality tv "stars" that are being treated like celebrities not actors. You don't have to go to school at all to become a celebrity.
