Of course, but I would still check if the coast was clear beforehand

No. Because then I would attract a ton of police and they'd force me to pull over, causing even more troubles, slowing down my time to help the emergency situation. Also if trying to beat the red light it would cause yet another emergency situation with many incocent people getting hurt.
And yet another statement is that the government has ambulances---that are safer, and faster to do that job so I won't have to kill myself.

Depends on how much of an emergency it is... but most likely I'll just get killed by the cross traffic (if you're talking about driving).

Real life isn't like in the movies.

Of course, I've done it taking someone to hospital, but I do look both ways. In fact I wouldn't mind seeing a cop to get an escort. But I have heard you still get a ticket.
