is the car a automatic or standard, the engine needs to be spinning in order for the fuel pump to turn over, I would recomment getting a test light from a parts store, they are around 5-10 bucks, check your fuses with the ignition on, check the fuel pump relay usually mounted on the side of the fuse box,

I cant imagine anyone just claiming the coil, those things are huge and usually never go bad since all they are is a step up transformer, you can check to see if you have spark by buying a spark plug or using a old one , I keep a couple in my tool box,, pull a wire and lay the plug on the block and have someone turn the engine over, and see if it sparks, most problems I have ever found with my 3 cars has been fuel related,

A FEW THINGS TO TRY . FIRST START THE ENGINE IF IT WILL START AT ALL.
CHECK THE BATTERY , PULL OFF THE POSITIVE LEAD. IF THE ENGINE STALLS , YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR. IF IT KEEPS RUNNING THE ALT IS GOOD.

NOW CHECKING THE COIL IS A LITTLE BIT MORE RISKY. PULL OFF ONE OF THE PLUG WIRES TO THE SPARK PLUG ( PLUG SIDE ONLY) PUT THE SCREW DRIVER END INTO THE FEMALE END OF THE WIRE. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SCREW DRIVER HAS A RUBBER HANDLE , AND YOUR NOT TOUCHING ANY BODY PART ON THE CAR WITH YOUR OTHER HAND. HOLD THE SCREW DRIVER WITH THE WIRE NOW ON THE TIP OF THE WIRE HOLDER AND PUT A DISTANCE BETWEEN THE METAL PART OF THE SCREW DRIVER AND A METAL PART ON THE ENGINE 1/4 INCH OR LESS IS GOOD.. . HAVE SOME ONE TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH TO START POSITION AND SEE IF YOUR GETTING A SPARK. IF THE ENGINE STARTS ,JUST HAVE HIM TURN IT OFF RIGHT AWAY OR KNOW AHEAD OF TIME TO NOT LET THE ENGINE START FULLY. IF THERE IS A SPARK YOUR COIL MAY NOT BE BAD .
IF YOU DON'T GET A SPARK. YOU COULD HAVE A BAD DISTRIBUTOR CAP. BAD ROTOR INSIDE THE CAP. BAD WIRES OR A BAD COIL...... PROCESS OF ELIMINATION.
