After all this terrorism stuff with carry on everyday equipment i got to thinking. Ever see those videos where they put mentos in diet coke and it basically explodes. If someone poured a few bottles of diet coke down an airplane toilet then dropped in a few packs of mentos could the resulting pressure cause problems or would it just overflow the toilet? I know airplanes have the ability to dump their waste, but they dont do it evey time you flush.

Well, first of all the method you describe wouldn't really work. The reason those "Diet Coke and Mentos" videos look so spectacular is because the Mentos cause the Coke to release its dissolved CO2 quickly in a very confined space (i.e. the 2-liter bottle that's already full of liquid). The act of pouring the Coke down the toilet already causes that release (in a more "normal" manner), so it would have lost most of its fizzing ability when it got to the waste tank, and adding Mentos wouldn't have much effect.
The only way this scenario would really work is if the waste tank were completely prefilled with soda under sealed conditions, and left sealed (nothing escaping through the toilets or other vents) until the right moment. And even then, I doubt you'd get a plane-destroying explosion--just an extremely messy cabin.
Besides, it's not the Mentos and Coke you have to worry about on the plane. It's the SNAKES. Those m-f-ing SNAKES!

Not a good idea to have any kind of explosion on a plane and if the passengers dont kill them first the feds will have them in prison being big bubbas b****.I really wouldnt recommend that even kidding about that with anyone any more.Thats some serious jail time.Not a scientist but I wouldnt have the guts to find out what would actually happen.That would be called sheer stupidity.

Yes, you CAN take mentos on board an aircraft, as long as you don't store them in a bottle. You can't, however, take a couple of cans of coke.

First of all, memtos are considered a gel candy. so you wouldn't get them on the plane in the first place. Second, you would be immediately detained and arrested as soon as the plane landed, unless there was an air marshall on the plane, then you would be in a world of hurt.

this is a good question. i don't know the answer, but you should contact mythbusters (yes, i know they've already done mentos and diet coke, but this is different). i'd watch it.
