Well, I don't have issues with these people asking one or two questions about their hw if they are stuck. But when I see a hw question and I look at the other questions they asked I usually see a load of hw questions that they are just submitting for us to answer for them, I know they are just getting us to do their hw for them. And the time they spent typing it in could be used to research the answer.
If they are truly having that hard a time then they need to see the teacher. And if the teacher is unable to explain in a new way so that the kid can understand then that teacher needs to reference someone or something else to help them teach the kid.
And hw isn't always just about memorizing the facts and problems, it's about problem solving and learning to research.

I answer questions, not for the points, but to help with understanding. I am an Algebra teacher and the questions I answer are usually math questions. I don't just tell the person to do their own homework because I realize with math that many times students need to see a problem worked out and explained. I also try to include a detailed explanation in my answer. You don't know the number of times I have had students come in and tell me they couldn't get their homework done because when they left the classroom they didn't remember how to do it and were totally lost. So, if someone could have shown them how to do a problem with explanation, they could have completed their homework.
And, I answered this question for the 2 points! LOL

I answer because I know that there are students who are afraid to speak up in class, and that there are students who are struggling. Moreover, some students cannot afford tutoring.
You are correct in a sense, homework is for the student. Homework should be an extension of the lesson, however, some teachers make homework extremely challenging. Therefore, students seek help.
Additionally, when I answer, I give the strategy on how, and end with "study." Some of the people who answer, give websites that are helpful as well.
Finally, If I see a name frequently, then I will not answer.

I am one who does NOT answer homework questions, although I'm always happy to help the student find a way to the answer without my giving him the answer directly. I'm a teacher myself, so I know the importance of doing the work not having someone else do it for you.

Not always do teacher or parents make themselves available to the students. I have been in that situation. If I can help someone learn how to accomplish their task then I am all for it.

Because I hated homework as a kid. And if I can help, I'd love to help and get someone off the hook.
Lets face it, most homework are chores. Yearly, they get recycled. And the kid who got the highest marks in class got his answers from the model answer he copied from his elder sister.
The only thing I learnt from most homework questions are where to find answers fast. Very few homework are truly good ones that forces you to think and learn.

the problem I think is the teachers, and maybe even further, The way they motivate the kids, the way they motivate curiosity and give them sources...to find maybe answers. It is so easy to copy and paste! education has to change to real time.

I answer one as an example, or give hints. Some I tell to "do your homework," and have gotten cursing emails.

We want the two points, now that getting points is a bit tougher.
Although we do chide them for not doing research.
