I'm not sure what you mean by technical disadvantages. There are several disadvantages to sex in advertising. First, you could offend the audience in the target market. How you do that depends on how sex is used or portrayed.
Second, sex may not be the best way to promote your product or service. There may be other enticements such as less stress or mor leisure time. This sort of miscommunication should be addressed when testing advertising concepts in focus groups.
The only other disadvantage I can think of is the limited shock value and lifespan of sex driven advertising. After the initial interest wears off, viewers will be looking for a message that has staying power. Which is better, people having more sex because they had a glass of milk at night or the phrase "Got Milk?" Clearly the phrase has more staying power.

Technical disadvantages ... Huh?! In this world of increasing meadia clutter and shrinking attention spans "Sex sells" and if combined with humour it makes for some amazing ads. For eg: the "got milk" campaign for a lingerie company is a classic.
However as always there is the danger of overcooking it and the lunatic fringe of flag burners and protestors will have uoy for lunch if you should step across that invisible and VERY thin line of social acceptability. However artistic license will probably win the day and with better sense prevailing you can merrily plan your next hot campaign. ;-)

I don't see any disadvantage in it as long as you know your target audience and not offend them - Obviously you shouldn't go over bord and know where to draw the line.
You can't use sex for a childrens product !

People will look to the sexual appeal not to the product itself.
They will remember the ad as being attractive, but not the product itself.
Many surveys shows that people remember the ad featuring "the hot blond women" but don't remember the product itself , or the usage of the product.

Sometimes the equipment ( monitor, keyboard. tripod, camera) get in the way.
A fluffy blue comforter would be a great advantage.
