Try DFO in Cheltenham, and also try the DFO in Essendon. The one in essendon is much easier to get to.
Try Chadstone Shopping Centre, there are buses that go there.
Try Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong. Very easy to get to.
Also if u are interested in good clothing, you might like to try Chapel Street, Toorak Rd and Commercial Rd in the Prahran/South Yarra area. It is only 10 minutes by Tram or bus. and 5 minutes by train from the city.

It depends on what you're looking to buy. Two new shopping centres, Melbourne Central and QV, are both quite large with a wide variety of shops.

Chadstone Shopping Centre on the main road at Chadstone....
great shopping with things from target to myer and kmart, to wollies and coles.

Highpoint in Maribrynong rocks, its good everything u will need.
Werribee Plaza isn't too bad as well.
