You're refering to an endoscopy (throat) and a colonoscopy ( rear end).
You'll be "under" for those, so the worst part is getting prepared. I've had the colonoscopy and the day before you will spend in the restroom. So make no plans because you will be going... but not going anywhere. As for afterwards, I had no pain, and most people (including myself) rarely feel any discomfort.
The endoscopy leaves a sore throat for a few days. It's a bit more invasive, but it's not as awful as you're thinking.
I work as a Hospital tech, and I've had to work with open heart, and angioplasty patients. The two procedures you're doing are very simple, uncomfortable yes, but necessary if you're having a problem. Plus, the recovery rate is very quick, so you'll be feeling better in no time.

Oh yeah, I had it a while ago,
The camera is on the bench, what goes into you is a tube with fibre optics taking the image to the camera,
The Tube is very thin and slippery about the thickness of your little finger,
Also they will medicate you to relax you so you will know what is going on but you will be so high you wont care (that's why they ask for Somone to come with you).
The worst part I found was the preparation, taking the stuff to clean out your bowel the day before as it blows everything out quite fast so be near a toilet.

You probably will be able to watch what is going on on the screen as well, I kept thinking of the 80`s film `Inner Space`

Dont worry, you will be ok

Well, I've never personally had this done, but I do also work in the private ambulance service and I transport patients to and from this procedure quite often.

It has been my experience that you are pretty well sedated durring this procedure, if not 'knocked out' alltogether. Though I'm sure that pain will be involved, but it will mostly be in the form of general soreness and/or and upset stomach after the fact.

If you are worried about pain, you should certinly talk this over with your MD beforehand. You might also mention that you have a tough time with pain or gag reflex and he might be more inclined to pay attn. to that. But most of all, just be honest with your concerns. Don't let any questions go unanswered.

I've never had one done myself, but I suppose the throat one would just be a tablet or something, since everything these days is microscopic, accept for bum cameras. Ouch! Good luck! I find taking your mind off of it is the best thing to do - I had to have two needles in my mouth yesterday, and the best way to deal with it is to not think about it. Good luck again!

I've had a similar surgery last month but the camera was inserted thru my belly button. I didn't feel a thing except for the pain from the anesthesia gas being trapped in my shoulder. There were horrible shoulder pains afterwards sort of like pulling a muscle.

Ive had the camera down the throat but not up my ar**.

It doesn't hurt but feels uncomfortable and makes you want to be sick. They give you something to drink first that will make your mouth numb.

Good luck and make sure they clean the camera!
