Harrow used to be a small market town in the 16th century until Oliver Cromwell took over the country and demolished the main square. Then the Vikings invaded and it became a main sea port, in 1657. It was not until 1698 that it was recognised in its own right as a flourishing main industrial town when King George 1 became ruler.
