Yeah. I noticed that too. Weird isn't it?
I think its because when you just wake up, you haven't frowned or smiled or wrinkled it for a while.
Overnight, while you were sleeping, your muscles were slack. So the skin smoothens out. I imagine its like a temporary Botox. Gone with awakening... like a dream.

Because overnight, several things happen.
First your skin repairs itself, making it look fresh and more youthful in the morning.
Secondly, in the moring you have slight swelling in your face from fluid retention, which makes it look dewy and plump.
Also sleep reduces skin complaints associated with stress such as flushing and acne.
When you sleep your body produces an antioxident known as melatonin, which keeps the skin healthy and refreshed. Sleeping in the dark is best as this prompts the body to stimulate the most melatonin.

Skin is well rested and you're not expose to any pollution or pollens. When body is active, of course you're gonna sweat and get oily so skin will look liek crap at the end of the day. Always bring oil film with you to prevent oily face. :)

Mine doesn't! My face is always puffy when I wake up. I suppose for those who get to sleep all night w/out being awakend by babies, their skin would look best in the morn.

Because you are well rested and you aren't exposed to any pollutants in the air. And your not sweating so the skin is clean instead of being oily.
