Buy an acoustic electric, and do both. Go on the Guitar Center and Daddy's Junky Music sites, there are a lot of used guits. You want electric with that repetoire, acoustic will sound like sh*t.
Email me:
helixburger@yahoo.com and I will help if you want. Fender has an inexpensive strat and amp set.

Heck yes!
If you like Metallica, try One. It's got a great acoustic guitar solo at the beginning. You can also play just the chords and stuff like that.
Or you could just go out and buy yourself an electric guitar and spare yourself a lot of pain....

Yes, in fact, when Eric Clapton was approached by MTV's unplugged he refused to play on the show because he said that he played Rock not any of that acoustic stuff, but when he finally went on the show his unplugged version of lela became his best selling song ever.

I was once in a training class and at lunch I was walking down the hall and one of the instructors was playing some classical guitar. I'm a smart @ss so in my best Tommy Chong voice I said, "Hey man, know any Black Sabbath?" Without missing a beat he went into Iron Man. It was great.

Many rock bands did gigs on MTV Unplugged in the 90s. Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, REM, Alice in Chains, and others appeared on the show.

"Dust In The Wind" by Kansas and "Layla" by Eric Clapton. Pretty much anything by Chuck Berry and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
