Because the new manager is trying to make a statement .I think Beckham was the manager of the team and not Sven as he seemed to be pulling all the strings.I agree Beckham is still a good player and it remains to be seen how England fare without him.We may get some answers tonight!!!!

The manager probably thinks he's too old already. He's probably considering the fact that beckham's still kinda ill and prone to injury.

I would have done the same too, leave beckham out. Though I still admire Beckham, i feel that it's time for a change.

there is still no-one better in the world to put the ball on the spot but that's the only thing he can bring to the game these days.
at the top you level you need to be able to bring much more.
i think mclaren is right to give the youngsters a chance.
Lennon or pennant could easily replace becks, they are both quicker and better tacklers
becks has been a great player and ambassador for the England squad but its time for the next generation to come through
hopefully we will have better luck with maclaren than we did with that moron swede.

You can't play Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard - it just doesn't work, someone had to be left out. Beckham may play for England again, he will just have to fight for his place like every player should.

Because McClaren wants to try something different. Fair play to him for that...but Beckham should be in ahead of Lampard, who was garbage in the World Cup.

He can't play for ever! And remember this is a friendly - Mc Laren will want to look at some younger players while he has this chance, and then bring in players like Becks for more important games if the youngsters fail to please.

Maybe the new coach wants someone more like Christiano Ronaldo.Who could run, dribble, pass and shoot. Oh ****, england doesn't have anyone like that.
