i dont know whether u can get your voice back to what it was
but i know that to help your throat and voice box lose an antibody or some thing affecting your voice box u can breathe in pure steam
breathe in through your nose n exhale through your mouth
it used to help me keep my voice box n throat moist n 'clean' it up before a show or somethin
have a bit of honey with cinnamon stick powder
also apply some balm to your throat before u sleep
go easy on the ice creams and chilled beers

also do not strain your voice .do not try to force your self into doin high notes .
take a guitar/piano and sing n play the lowest to highest note you can take.
as soon as u find yourself straining stop and start from the begining
whenever u reach a tough high notekeep your chin tucked in towards your chest so that you again dont strain your vocal cords.
remember your vocal cords r weak and all weak things require time and gentelness
this process is long but remember to take it as slow as possible

dont lose hope .....keep the faith!!!

Yes, employ a vocal instructor, by all means. They will teach you how to sing correctly and you will be amazed at how well you can sing. People who are not trained in correct singing/vocal methods actually may hurt their voices. By the way, don't blame smoking as the majority of female singers smoke and because they know how to sing correctly, that doesn't affect them much.

nicely Mrs. GEM ... being that i'm a singer (have been because i replaced into small) i could say I choose my singing voice over the two. even nevertheless, as for the "experience" element of your question those sort of years of singing and speaking loudly (as a instructor) have deepened my voice so as that now they're lots alike. My speaking voice is deep and so is my singing voice. My vocal coaches contained in the previous have mentioned the two are comparable that's unquestionably somewhat unusual. i'm chuffed my speaking voice replaced because of the fact I hated it whilst i replaced into youthful. I sounded greater like a small animal being strangled when I talked! lol i like my voice the intensity that that's now ... and that i'm grateful for all the years of singing! =) Peace to you. **************************************...

well...

you quit 4 years ago, that means if their were any remaining healthy lung cells left they would have alreayd built back up a nice portion of your lungs back...

so, practise practise practise. get a vocal coach and learn again. your vocal cords are a muscle and they have memory. after a while they will remember what they used to do and your voice will come back.

and dont start smoking again...after a little while, you will have a nice shiny new pair of lungs.

when you have your voice back...come and do a duet with me.

start taking professional lessons and your instructor will help you retrain your upper register... practice also builds lung capacity which smoking diminishes... some people never regain their singing voices after smoking... so don't get your hopes too high..

I loose my voice to mis use and yelling. the best way to get it back is to be very gentle with it. Don't scream. Yell. Talk loud .
Keep up the water and the lemon tea.
